Things to Do in Flagstaff This Weekend!

Route66On Saturday and Sunday head downtown for the 10th Annual Flagstaff Route 66 Days Charity Car Show featuring over 450 customs, classics, hot rods, muscle cars, sports cars and special interest vehicles.  Also featured, over 50 arts & crafts, automotive and food vendors at Wheeler Park.

This weekend, the Grand Canyon Salsa Festival brings together Flagstaff dance enthusiasts and some of the greatest talents from the national performance and competition circuits for a four-night, three-day celebration of ethnic dances and diversity.  Workshops also in Bachata, Zouk, Kizomba, Cha Cha, Tango, and Cumbia.  At the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Flagstaff (1175 W. The events of the week-long Arizona Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club’s Colorado River Days culminate this weekend.  Hear the contestants in a songwriting contest about the river on Friday evening, 8:00 p.m. at Uptown Pubhouse (114 N. Leroux ).  There’s A potluck/BBQ at the Grand Canyon Trust Homestead (2601 N. Fort Valley) on Saturday evening, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  More events on Sunday!

This week’s Downtown Friday Nights features the nationally acclaimed cello and banjo due, The Littlest Birds.  They’ve performed their unique blend of Americana music across 33 states and Canada over the past four years including such festivals as the Oregon Country Fair and Vancouver Folk Music Festival as well as sold out concerts for Folk Sessions in nearby Prescott.  On Heritage Square, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Friday’s the first Friday in September – time for the monthly downtown First Friday ArtWalk.  The ArtWalk features new art exhibitions in galleries, transformed spaces, restaurants and other businesses. 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Details and map.

Enjoy the final concert of the Arboretum at Flagstaff’s Summer Concert Series as Traveler takes the stage on Saturday evening, an innovative fusion of world music and rock. Using traditional ethnic instruments combined with all the power of a full-blown rock band, Traveler’s performances are intense, exotic and adrenaline-driven. The real magic is in the connection they make with the audience.  Bring chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner.  5:30 p.m.  Arb and Arts Council Members, $14; non-members are $18; $9 for kids 6 – 16.

It’s the season’s final Movie on the Square, on Saturday evening on Heritage Square.  This week’s feature is “The Adventures of Zambezia.”  Sponsored by the Flagstaff Downtown Business Alliance.  Entertainment begins at 5:00 p.m. with the movie at dusk.
