All the action of rodeo returns to Flagstaff on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with fun for the whole family, as the Flagstaff Pro Rodeo comes alive at the Coconino County Fairgrounds. See bull riding, barrel racing, bareback riding, team roping, saddle-bronc riding, steer wrestling & tie down roping. Pride in the Pines Festival at Thorpe Park is a weekend-long celebration with exciting entertainment, after parties and more, on Saturday and Sunday. This year’s headliner entertainment includes Dev, Berlin featuring Terri Nunn, and many others. The Pride Association seeks to celebrate and increase awareness of the LGBTQ community in an atmosphere that embraces, promotes and supports cultural diversity, and civil and human rights.
Showcasing the best in folk and acoustic music from Arizona and beyond, the 2014 Flagstaff Folk Festival is Saturday and Sunday at the Coconino Center for the Arts and Pioneer Museum. With over 100 acts on four stages, the festival also features workshops, jams and more. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. both days.
Flagstaff Eats now offers Flagstaff Walking Food Tours — the 2.5-hour walking tour includes food samples from seven different restaurants, and fun facts along the way. $40 per person. Friday – Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Or, tag along downtown with local historian and tour guide Johnny Anaya on a Flagstaff Historic Walking Tour, leaving from the Flagstaff Visitor Center (in the train station) at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. $10 per person.
On Saturdays through August 30th, Willow Bend Environmental Education Center (703 E. Sawmill Rd.) hosts Summer Saturdays for family-friendly fun and learning, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This Saturday’s topic is “Incredible Insects.”
Also on Saturday, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (224 S. Kendrick St.) and Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces invite everyone to the inaugural Flagstaff Summertime Tardeada Fiesta and Oldies Car Show, 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., to celebrate and recognize Flagstaff’s Hispanic roots. Entertainment includes Flagstaff’s Ballet Folklorico de Colores, accordion music by Grupo C-J de Marley from Phoenix, and Mariachi Sol Azteca from Tucson. Free! Purchase barbecue and Mexican food.
This week’s Movie on the Square at Heritage Square is “Free Birds.” Entertainment begins at 5:00 p.m. Get down there early to stake out a spot for a blanket or lawn chairs!
Guided Hart Prairie Nature Walks continue each Sunday morning led by a member of the Nature Conservancy on the western slope of the San Francisco Peaks. Learn about birds, wildflowers, forest ecology, and the Nature Conservancy’s mission. Scheduled through September 21st. Meet just prior to 10:00 a.m. More info: (928) 774-8892.
The Flagstaff Community Market continues on Sundays through the summer and early autumn, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., in the city hall west parking lot (211 W. Aspen Ave.).
On Sunday afternoon, Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona hosts its 6th Annual Food, Wine & Fun event. Enjoy fabulous wine tasting, BRIX Restaurant’s famous hors d’oeuvres, and a raffle featuring local artists and businesses. At BRIX Restaurant (413 N. San Francisco St.), 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Individuals $40, couples $70. Tickets available at BRIX, Criollo, Vino Loco, online, or the door. Proceeds benefit Girls on the Run scholarships.
