As the seasons change and the weather gets warmer, more and more traffic enters our little mountain town. With this influx of people, both locals and tourists alike have asked the Elite Team why so many individuals in Flagstaff need help. We thought an article mentioning different programs and services in Flagstaff for the less fortunate would be welcome advice.
While driving around town, you may see individuals on busy street corners panhandling for money. There have been issues with panhandlers using their donations to purchase substances rather than food or shelter. Fortunately a program was created by the Shadows Foundation and the Flagstaff Police Department, called Better Bucks. Better Bucks can be used to purchase non-alcoholic and non-tobacco related products from local businesses around town. Instead of giving panhandlers cash, you can give Better Bucks so they can purchase food or supplies that will really make a difference in their lives. For the others you see around town who may not be panhandling but are looking for assistance when it comes to food and shelter, there are many more programs around town that offer help. Visit the Coconino County Assistance Program for information on where you can find food, shelter, clothing, and guidance during this spring and summer season.
