Revisit the days of sock hops and soda shops as Tom Tayback takes you down memory lane with tributes to legends like Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Little Richard, The Coasters, Fats Domino, Sam The Sham and more. The NAU Department of Theatre production of Neil LaButte’s The Shape of Things to Come continues Friday and Saturday (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday (2:00 p.m.). Challenging society’s most deeply entrenched ideas about art, manipulation, and love, the central themes of the play, focus on the nature of stoicism, art, psychopathy, intimacy, explorations of love, and people’s willingness to do things for love. The play is set in a small university town in the American Midwest and centers on the lives of four young students who become emotionally and romantically involved with each other. On Friday, hear the majestic sound of the NAU Symphonic Band in Concert, performing a variety of historically significant works for band, as well as transcriptions that are considered to be the core repertoire of the wind medium. The Symphonic Band provides essential knowledge for music performance and music education majors. Mr. Elliott Tackitt, Associate Director of Bands, is the main conductor. On Friday evening, see the award-winning reggae group Tribal Seeds, known for their spiritually driven, refreshing rock vibe they have infused with the roots style of reggae music. Tribal Seeds’ unmatched musical talent and authentic sound has brought them to the forefront of the reggae rock genre. On Saturday morning, come hungry as the Assistance League of Flagstaff/Alpine Auxiliary hosts its 5th Annual Winter Pancake Breakfast. Look over the gift baskets on the silent auction table, and buy a raffle ticket. The Alpine Auxiliary is a non-profit organization that benefits charities such as Assault Survivor Kits, Hug-A-Bear, and Sharon Manor. Federated Church (400 W. Discovery Hikes at Wupatki National Monument continue on Saturday. Guided hikes provide the only public access to many areas of the monument.
