The History of Sunnyside

The Sunnyside neighborhood in Flagstaff, Arizona boasts a rich history dating back to the early days of its development. Built on land originally exempt from zoning restrictions and building codes, Sunnyside’s streets feature a diversity of land use patterns and building styles. It wasn’t until the neighborhood was annexed by the city in 1959 that regulations were put in place. In the mid-2000s, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association undertook a revitalization project to upgrade the neighborhood’s infrastructure, resulting in numerous new developments and businesses being established. Today, Sunnyside is a thriving, vibrant community that continues to evoke Flagstaff’s rich cultural heritage.

Warm and bright sunshine in the summer, chilly mornings with colorful aspens in the fall, snow with freezing temperatures in the winter, and a mix of everything in the spring. The average high in the summer is 80ºF and a low of 53ºF. During the cold season of late November to early March, the average daily high is below 49ºF. The hottest month is July and the coldest month is December. Flagstaff’s mountain elevation does bring summer monsoon storms that keep the trails in great shape and the hot days to a minimum.
