Things To Do in Flagstaff This Weekend

Harlem GlobetrottersThe world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Flagstaff on Friday evening with their unrivaled family show, featuring some of the greatest athletes on the planet. With incredible ball handling wizardry, amazing rim-rattling dunks and trick shots, side-splitting comedy and unequaled on-court fan interaction, this must-see event is guaranteed to entertain the whole family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.  The Globetrotters will face their infamous rivals, the Washington Generals at 7:00 p.m. at Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) Walkup Skydome. Tickets are $28 – $68.

The Flagstaff Theatrikos Theatre Company’s production of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure continues this weekend on Friday and Saturday (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.).  The world’s greatest detective has seemingly reached the end of his remarkable career when a case presents itself that is too tempting to ignore.  In doing so, he marches right into the lair of his longtime adversary, that malevolent genius of crime, Professor Moriarty.  Book tickets at the Theatrikos website. Celebrate the first Friday of February at Flagstaff’s monthly premier arts event — the First Friday ArtWalk throughout downtown.  Galleries and businesses in Historic Downtown Flagstaff open their doors with special art exhibitions, performances, live music, treats and more.  6:00-9:00 p.m.  Many downtown hot spots remain open after 9:00.  Monthly guide to the art walk is available here.

The Flagstaff Visitor Center is hosting a Flagstaff Chocolate Walk in downtown Flagstaff on Saturday – a one-day event when you can enjoy all different varieties of chocolates while exploring the shops, restaurants and sights.  Registration is 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center at 1 East Route 66 (in the train station).  You’ll get a “chocolate passport” map and discounts at local shops exclusive to the Chocolate Walk.  Collect points on your passport toward one of several prizes.  $5 for ages 13 and older, $3 ages 6 – 12, 5 and under are free.  Enjoy live entertainment at the Visitor Center.

Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces presents Paint & Wine in the Pines during the First Friday ArtWalk, featuring works by Vangie Rodriguez and other artists, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church & Cultural Center (224 S. Kendrick St.).  Reception free.  Register for a $25 art class during ArtWalk.

On Saturday, join Willow Bend Environmental Education Center (703 E. Sawmill Road) for the first program in its Winter Wildlife Series for Adults: Basic Wildlife Tracking.  10:00 a.m.  Lynne Nemeth, Executive Director of the Arboretum at Flagstaff, will teach participants about basic animal tracking. The program will include a short hike around Sawmill Park, the Rio de Flags and the FUTS trail below Willow Bend. RSVP is required — sign up online.  Suggested $5 per person donation.

Learn the art of soap making at a three-hour clinic on Saturday – the Winter Soap-Making Workshop – at the Arizona Historical Society Pioneer Museum (2340 North Fort Valley Road).  Learn about cold process, melt-and-pour, and an introduction to salves using natural vegetable oils, garden-grown herbs, and mineral-based colors.  1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Workshop limited to six participants.  $25 includes all materials.  Reservations: (928) 774-6272.

On Saturday, the Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society presents High Tea with Diana Gabaldon.  Enjoy a traditional high tea including sandwiches, scones, and sweets, followed by a reading by Diana Gabaldon (author of the Outlander series of books and Outlander on STARZ). No host bar, silent auction, and professional photos with Diana.  At The Kilted Kat (2600 W. Kiltie Lane), 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.  $40 per person.  Tickets available at Arizona Music Pro.  The NAU Bookstore will be on hand selling books.

Friday and Saturday are the conclusion of Jupiter Week at Flagstaff’s Lowell Observatory.  Interactive Jupiter activities each evening, 6:00 – 9:30 p.m.
