Flagstaff’s High Country Conference Center

As we approach the fifth anniversary of Flagstaff’s conference center, let’s note what a great success it has been in showcasing Flagstaff!

High Country Conference Center – Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff’s High Country Conference Center (HCCC) opened in March 2008 with a dinner and dance gala featuring the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.  The long-awaited conference venue was a welcome addition to scenic and inviting Flagstaff, with its modern architecture and extraordinary use of huge windows to showcase the natural scenery.

Located at the northwest corner of the Northern Arizona University (NAU) campus, at the intersection of Milton Road and Butler Avenue, the HCCC is perfectly situated for immediate access to campus facilities and all of the amenities of Flagstaff.

The conference center features 25,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, to accommodate meetings and events from 10 people to 1,000.  Dedicated to professional conferences, functions and special events, the HCCC offers all of the state-of-the-art technology expected by meeting planners.

Professional meeting planners, a trained staff, and culinary experts are available to customize events to the specific needs of clients.  The HCCC was among 19 conference centers to be selected for a Pinnacle Award from Successful Meetings magazine in 2012, its second year receiving the award.

Readers of the magazine selected winners who demonstrated excellence in service and facilities. The magazine has two additional award categories for convention and visitors bureaus and hotels/resorts.

“The facility has brought tremendous value to the university and the entire community of Flagstaff,” said Moses DeBord, general manager of the conference center. “This recognition speaks to the high quality of the facility and the commitment to excellence that we strive to provide.”

The HCCC collaborates with the Flagstaff Convention and Visitors Bureau and the many departments on the NAU campus to lure meetings and conferences to Flagstaff.  Initially focusing on larger, day-long corporate events with meetings and meals as package deals, the emphasis has shifted as corporate spending has decreased.  Today the HCCC hosts more smaller events, with smaller and shorter meetings, and weddings, while still drawing occasional large events.

HCCC revenues were more than $2.2 million in fiscal year 2012, marking four years of steady growth.  The center hosted 589 events in FY 2012.

Adjacent to the HCCC, the Drury Inn & Suites Flagstaff has 160 rooms with luxurious amenities and hotel features.  Additional meeting rooms, a business center and a technology help desk are available.  The Drury Inn is in the perfect central location to enjoy all Flagstaff has to offer even if you’re not attending an event at the HCCC facility.

In early 2012, the 1899 Bar & Grill opened its doors just steps across the street from the HCCC on the NAU campus. It fuses a turn-of-the-century American bistro with a contemporary steakhouse flair, also featuring foods native to the Southwest.  Many of the staff and servers are NAU students. The restaurant is a valuable resource for NAU’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, enabling these students to learn in an actual commercial setting.

Named for the year NAU was founded, the 1899 Bar & Grill offers both a lunch and dinner menu, and a full bar with regional tap beers and a wine list to complement the dining experience.
