Independence Day Parade in Flagstaff, AZThere is nothing quite like Independence Day in Flagstaff:
Get started early on Wednesday evening, July 3rd, with Concerts in the Park Roadshow — The Dave Logan Band. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and enjoy an evening of live music and fresh air. From tender love songs to funky, rhythmically charged acoustic rockers, from deep-down, sexy grooves to “kick-out-the-jams” Americana, the Dave Logan Band weaves a musical soundscape for all listeners. Wheeler Park, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Free.
An exciting Flagstaff tradition, the 17th Annual Downtown Independence Day Parade kicks off Thursday (the Fourth of July) at 9:00 a.m. With over 100 entries, the parade begins at the intersections of Beaver and Fine Street, travels south to the intersections of Beaver and Aspen, east to San Francisco and Aspen Avenue, and finally north to Fine and San Francisco. Bands, floats and community organizations.Bring lawn chairs, water and sunscreen! Free.
The 7th Annual Art in the Park arts and crafts festival is Thursday through Saturday in Wheeler Park. The festival features tightly juried, one-of-a-kind fine arts and fine crafts designed and shown by the exhibitor. Food vendors, regional and local entertainers, and children’s activities will combine to make this year’s festival a memorable celebration in the heart of Northern Arizona’s cool pines! Thursday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Free.
Although there are protests (with which I happen to agree) that this shouldn’t be allowed in our fire-threatened community, for now the schedule is for Fireworks Extravaganza to cap off an afternoon of food and entertainment at the Country Club Driving Range (off Country Club Drive). The food and entertainment begin at 3:00 p.m. Hosted by Continental Country Club and Jake’s on the Green. Parking is $10 per car, and is limited. There are VIP tickets available for buffet and entertainment at the Continental Clubhouse for $75 per person. The allegedly fire-safe fireworks show kicks off at 9:00 p.m. (weather and city permits permitting). Car-pooling recommended!Staying out of the area unless you live there and can walk to the events is even more recommended.

The Fourth of July is used in common conversation as a celebration and a weekend and a time to gather with friends. But what it is, let’s remember, is a celebration of our independence as a free country. Enjoy while remembering our great history! And stay safe!
