About Flagstaff
The county seat of Coconino County, located in northern Arizona in the southwest of the United States, is the city of Flagstaff. The projected population of the city in 2019 was 75,038. A total of 139,097 people live in Flagstaff’s metropolitan region.
Flagstaff is situated on the western border of the biggest continuous ponderosa pine forest in the continental United States, which is located along the southwest edge of the Colorado Plateau and inside the San Francisco volcanic region. The San Francisco Peaks, the tallest mountain range in the state of Arizona, are immediately south of the city, which is located at an elevation of roughly 7,000 feet near to Mount Elden. Humphreys Peak, at 12,633 feet, is the highest peak in Arizona and is located in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, approximately 10 miles north of Flagstaff.
The Moenkopi Formation red sandstone, which was previously mined in the city and used to create many of the old downtown buildings, is part of the exposed rock from the Mesozoic and Paleozoic periods in the Flagstaff region. Through the city flows the Rio de Flag river.
